Vinyl Envy is a vinyl record store, live music venue, and a cornerstone for art, music, and culture in Victoria. Every year, they host a two day music festival–Psych & Soul–that features our area's top psychedelic rock and soul music bands. I worked with Vinyl Envy to design print and web advertising to spread the hype about this year's festival.

An important goal in designing the advertising was to pay tribute to the visuals associated with both the psychedelic rock and soul music genres. Because Psych & Soul is an annual event, another goal was to design the advertising with the flexibility to be used year after year, with colour pallets, band names, and event information being interchangeable every year.
Vibrant colours, expressive lettering, and trippy visuals are key features to the Psych & Soul branding. Keeping print media in mind, it was important to make sure that, although the graphics were really colourful and expressive, they also printed clearly and were legible at a distance when they're shown around town.
Social media is an important outlet for Psych & Soul's advertising. I designed their social media ads for Instagram and Facebook marketing, which is where I introduced lava lamp designs for the first time, which paid tribute to 1970's psychadelic-y nostalgia.
I designed a line of merchandise for Psych & Soul, expanding their event's branding into the physical world. For me, one of the best parts of going to a festival is taking home a piece of merch to remember it by.
Psych & Soul is three years running, and is one of our city's most original live music events. Looking into the future, I designed a series of concept products for Psych & Soul to add to their roster. These designs are experiments created to push the branding into unknown territory, seeing how the logos, fonts, and colours looked on new products.
In our digital age, it's becoming more of a necessity to advertise online as it is to advertise on the streets. This case study for Psych & Soul shows how a visual identity for an event ensures that its advertising looks great in print and on the web.
